Bond Girls: Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman)

Hey Everyone,

Following the 1963 release of from Russia With Love was the hugely popular Goldfinger in 1964, this is probably one of the best know early Bond films aside from Dr. No. There is so much about this film that people know, the theme which is extremely similar to Moon River and the whole soundtrack won an Academy Award for Best Sound Editing. It has one of the best know plots, one of the best know Bond henchmen, Oddjob and of course one of the Best known Bond Girls Pussy Galore.

The basic plot of the film is that while Bond (Sean Connery) is on vacation in Miami he gets involved in the dealings of Auric Goldfinger (Gert Fröbe), blackmailing Goldfinger into returning all of his winnings to a man that he had cheated them out of earlier, and angering Goldfinger to the point that he has Bond's "girlfriend" Jill Masterson killed through "epidermal suffocation" using gold paint (which is a myth as it has been proven untrue in recent years.). Thus Bond is on a mission half vendetta and half official business, eventually after being tranquillised after meeting Goldfinger, he wakes up to meet Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman), eventually after discovering Goldfingers grand plan titled "Operation Grand Slam" Bond turns Pussy Galore to the good side and thwarts Goldfinger.

Overall though the feel of the 1960's Bond film makeup is very neutral very natural looking makeup (as you can tell from the previous two tutorials) however, in this particular tutorial I actually pulled inspiration from an outfit that was worn by Pussy Galore in the movie (Outfit on the Left).

And so instead of pulling inspiration from the makeup of the movie I pulled my inspiration from this outfit and the obvious title of the movie, going with a slightly smokey lavender eye and incorporating touches of gold in the lower lash line, cheeks and lips.

Here are the products and styles of brushes I used,

Prep:

Urban Decay Primer Potion (Original), just apply it all over the eye, both upper and lower lids, and just use your finger, they're the best tool for applying primer.

Setting Powder, I always mention it in my videos, I use a setting powder because I have oily eyelids and this helps my makeup last throughout the day, if you don't have that issue, you don't have to use it. Just apply this over your primer with any eyeshadow brush, and your good to go.

Eyeshadow:

(Left to Right: Brow bone, Eyelid and Outer V.)

Wet 'n' Wild Petal Pusher Pallet, I used primarily the left side of the pallet, I used the Brow bone shade of the pallet for my highlight I used a small stiff pencil brush. The eyelid shade for my eyelid applied with a standard eyeshadow brush, and I mixed both crease shades and the sparkly purple definer shade for my outer V which I applied with a fluffy pencil brush and then blended with a fluffy crease brush.

Marc Jacobs The Starlet Pallet, I know I said I don't like this pallet, but this was the only shade that was close to what I wanted. This shade I used for my crease is the farthest left which is a metallic lavender and I used an angled eyeshadow brush to give me the shade of a cut crease, and then I blended it out with a fluffy eyeshadow brush.

Eyeliner:

For this look I used two different pencil liners, I used Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye pencil in Asphyxia which is a purple with blue iridescence for my waterline to tie in the purple. The other is Black Gold from Laura Mercier which is a dark rich gold colour, that I used on my lower lash line.

I lined my upper lid with Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Liner in Perversion, this is my favourite liner, as I prefer a brush tip, alternately if you like a felt tip on your liner Revlon Colourstay liner, it has the closest saturation and consistency to Urban Decay, but if you prefer a pencil liner Tarte EmphasEyes Eyeliner is really good too.

Cheeks and Lips:

For my cheeks I wanted to go with something soft, Bobbi Brown shimmer Brick in Nectar is Ideal for this as it has a slightly gold undertone.

I decided to do something a little bit different for the lip, I wanted to include a touch of gold in the lip, how I did that was I initially applied a base, in this instance a thin coat of the lip gloss that I was going to use then I took a small paddle style brush and applied M.A.C. Old Gold Pigment directly onto the lips,

Then I topped it of with a much thicker glossier coat of Tarte Maracuja Divine Shine Lip gloss in Tipsy.

Coming up next is the 1965 film Thunderball, the Bond Girl is Dominique "Domino" Durval, Played by Claudine Auger.
