Feel Good Beauty: DVD's?

Hey,

Not everyone likes the though of going to the gym, or even exercising outside, sometimes they're hard to get into, and sometimes you just don't feel comfortable. Thankfully in the 80's a new trend was started with the workout tapes your mothers or grandmother's may have used most notably the Jane Fonda Workout. These days work out DVDs are a dime a dozen, so which one should you choose? There are three categories of work out DVDs: Flexibility, Cardio and Extreme.

Flexibility: These are generally the yoga DVDs most of these programs are easy yoga or yoga for beginners, I defiantly recommend yoga DVDs for people who either are not comfortable going to a class or are unable to attend yoga classes they are generally easy poses and very relaxing.

Cardio: This makes up the majority of workout DVDs, Pilate's, Aerobics and Dance Cardio are some of the most popular. My personal favourite is Dance cardio as when I was younger I did dance, they are fun and have a great mix of dance styles, as well you don't need to have a partner to do these dances like if you were taking a class, and you learn some great moves for when you go out on the town!

Extreme: These are like your  P90X style DVDs. They're not for the faint of heart, or for beginners, they're not something that should be taken lightly.

Anyway you do it though, exercises DVDs make working out healthy and they're something that is so easy to work into your daily life as most only take 15 to 30 minutes.

Feel Good Beauty: Finding Your Groove

Hello All,

The exercises groove, it's different for everyone, I have one friend who gets into their groove with the recumbent bike, another friend has a great groove when she goes running, for me it's both on the cross trainer and if not at the gym while while I'm walking or hiking. If your unsure of how to find your rhythm, one of the best ways is to make a play list of really upbeat fast, paced tunes, start in one place whether it's the treadmill or the bike and go for 10 minutes to start. If you notice your pace lagging or your waiting impatiently for 10 minutes to be up that exercises is not for you. It's all about trial and error, that doesn't mean that you should only do that one particular exercises, it just means that it's the one you can do the most of.

Here are my top 25 work out play list songs:

  1. Roar by Katy Perry
  2. Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke
  3. Girl Crazy by Ryan Laird
  4. I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston
  5. Qui Je Suis by Andrée Watters
  6. Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves
  7. La Bamba by Los Lobos
  8. Footloose by Blake Shelton (I like the slightly faster tempo)
  9. Wannabe by The Spice Girls (total guilty pleasure, but it totally works)
  10. Kissing Rain by Roch Voisine
  11. Gangnam Style by PSY
  12. Ça Plane Pour Moi by Plastic Bertrand (totally catchy)
  13. Teenage Dream by Katy Perry
  14. California Gurls (feat. Snoop Dogg) by Katy Perry
  15. Let's Go Higher by Johnny Reid
  16. The Boy Does Nothing by Alesha Dixon
  17. Livet I Plastik by Hej Matematik
  18. Don't Go Breaking My Heart By Elton John and Kiki Dee
  19. September by Earth, Wind and Fire
  20. Take It Easy by The Eagles
  21. Sideways by Dierks Bentley
  22. You Gotta Be by Des'ree (Inspirational motivation)
  23. Fighter by Christina Aguilera
  24. Toxic by Britney Spears
  25. Back to the 80's by Aqua

These are probably the 25 easiest to workout to songs they have a good beat and they make you want to work out harder.

What are your 25 easiest to work out to songs?

Feel Good Beauty: Happy Pancakes

Hello There Happy,

I will actually be out of town till Thursday, so Monday to Wednesday's post will be posted today.

The most important meal of the day of course is breakfast, but coming up with healthy breakfast items can be really hard, especially when your talking about something like pancakes,. I have come up with two very simple recipe for pancakes one chunky and the other smooth, both equally simple, tasty and inexpensive.

Ana's Chunky Banana Oat Pancakes

1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup cottage cheese
1 banana (mashed)
1/2 egg whites
2 tbsp xantham gum (or flour)
1 tsp honey
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking powder
  1. Mix oats, cottage cheese, banana, xantham gum, honey, cinnamon and baking powder in a bowl.
  2. Beat egg whites till stiff peaks form.
  3. Fold egg whites into the rest of the batter.
  4. Drop Batter onto very lightly greased pan ( I spray my pan with PAM baking spray and then wipe up the excess with paper towel.)
  5. Cook on first side till bubbles form and then burst, then flip (they might seem a little delicate, but they're not.)
  6. Cook till other side is brown.
  7. Serve with fresh fruit, yogurt, and honey.

Ashley's Smooth Protein Pancakes

1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup cottage cheese
1 banana
1/2 cup egg whites
1/2 tsp cinnamon

  1. Place all ingredients into a blender, blend till smooth.
  2. Drop into a very lightly greased pan.
  3. Wait till first side is browned, flip and cook the other side.
  4. Serve with fresh fruit, yogurt and honey.

Both recipes are really good, my personal trainer recommended the second recipe, but without any instructions, when I told her about my recipe, she thought that cottage cheese wouldn't break down, but it does and she is planning on trying out my recipe as well.

Feel Good Beauty: Internal Reflection

Hey there,

I can be a really emotional eater, if I'm upset I have been known to eat a whole 9" cake, and in my family success is also rewarded with food, essentially keeping a person stuck in sort of the same rut. What I've taken to doing instead is keeping a journal, so that when I'm upset or angry instead of eating my own weight or more in sweets, I let it out on paper. Like wise it helps with when I feel good and rewarding myself, because then all my feelings are out on paper and I don't feel the need to over consume those feelings either. Admittedly though it is hard at times to always do this safely, it isn't about counting calories, or making oneself feel bad (though sometimes it does), and I have heard of people taking journal keeping like this to extremes but over all I find that it's rather cathartic.

Feel Good Beauty: Power Packed Protien Chocolate Shake

Hey There Everyone,

So today is another recipe day!! I know I also promised exercises but I just tried this recipe and it was just too good not to share. My personal trainer actually recommended this recipe yesterday for those really intense chocolate cravings, and I thought I would try it out today. This recipe can actually be made two different ways without changing the ingredients. Also it is incredibly packed with nutrients and is so delicious.

Power Packed Protein Chocolate Shake

1/4 milk (use whatever kind you have or like)                                                                         full of calcium and protein
1 tbsp smooth peanut butter (or nut butter substitute)                                   more protein and makes it really taste good
1 banana                                                                                                                     potassium and tons of vitamins
1 tbsp of cocoa powder                                                                         makes it taste chocolaty and a great source of fibre
honey to taste                                                                             natural antibiotic and a complex carbohydrate so no sugar rush
1/4 tsp vanilla                                                                                                                      because it tastes good
1 tbsp of protein powder or skim milk powder                                                                                  protein
ice as much or as little as you like                                                                                     helps thicken the shake

Put everything into the blender jar, liquids first, solids last and blend till smooth. Pour into glass and serve.

Use only a little ice to make a shake or use a lot to make more of a soft serve consistency. This tastes so amazing, it honestly tastes like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup and a banana had an ice cream baby.

Don't forget to tell me some of your favourite healthy recipes guys!!!

Feel Good Beauty: Green Smoothies

Hello, Hello!

So recently I've really been getting into healthy living. The biggest reason is that both exercises and healthy eating play a big part in not only the way you feel about yourself and the way you look. For me personally I set a challenge for my self each month it doesn't have to be a big goal it can be as small as drinking 2.5- 3 Litres of water a day, walking for an hour each day or as difficult as a diet, weight or activity challenge.

My personal challenge for the month of October is to drink a green smoothie everyday. All green smoothie recipes are different but there are four main parts to each smoothie.

  1. The Greens: Most green smoothies call for either spinach, kale or both. Spinach is a little easier on the blender, and kale can be both tough and bitter, but I have ways of working around the blender issue as kale is packed with all sorts of vitamins and minerals.
  2. The Fruit: The fruit is super easy use any kind of fruit you like berries, bananas, pineapple, mango, they're all good. I even really like watermelon, try using frozen fruit (except for the banana which will thicken your smoothie anyway.) it will help thicken your smoothie so you don't have to add ice.
  3. The Liquid: Juice, water, milk, or any other type of liquid is absolutely necessary, if there is no liquid in your blender jar, your smoothie will not purée. I like a combo of juice and water about 75% : 25% ratio.
  4. The Boosters: These are all your extras, my personal trainer likes hemp and chia seeds in hers, but I don't like how "chunky" these make my smoothies, I know of other people who like protein powders, at the moment I like flax seeds which break down really well and ground nuts.
The fantastic thing about green smoothies even if you use kale is you don't taste the greens, all you taste is the fruit and any other things you add to it.

Ana's Green Smoothie

1-2 handfuls of baby spinach (use two handfuls if your not using kale)
1 handfuls of kale (optional)
3/4 cup juice (must be 100% juice)
1/4 water
1- 1 1/2cups of mixed frozen fruit
2 tbsp flax seeds
2tbsp ground nuts
honey to taste (optional

  1. Put greens, flax seeds and half the water into the blender jar. Purée until smooth.
  2. Add juice, frozen fruit, ground nuts, honey and the rest of the water. Blend again till smooth.
  3. Pour into a large glass and serve.
Like I said this is one of my favourite green smoothie recipes, and I feel so good after drinking it, I've even tricked other people (who don't like healthy food at all) and they love this smoothie, also remember depending on what fruits you add to your smoothie may change the colour.

So I think I'm going to try posting daily on Feel Good Beauty as a series, with everything from exercises to healthy recipes, and all sorts of health tips.

So leave me a comment on some of your favourite healthy recipes.

The Bond Girls: Honey Ryder (Ursula Andress)

Hello Gorgeous,

I promised that I was going to do a series of tutorials based off of the bond girl roles. I'll be going in chronological order starting of course with the 1962 film that started it all, Dr. No. The film was set in Jamaica, the main roles were filled by Sean Connery (James Bond), Ursula Andress (Honey Ryder) and Joseph Wiseman (Dr. Julius No). Being the very first James bond film the production company really had to make a splash, and they obviously did, if the continuing of the James Bond franchise, and one of the two major reasons for this was in fact the introduction of the Bond Girl.

Dr. No was the English (although both Andress' singing and speaking were dubbed) acting debut for Ursula Andress, and her introduction in the movie is still probably one of the most talked about bond scenes ever. Bit of back story, Honey Ryder is a shell diver that gets caught up in Bond's adventures,
when he stumbles upon her in his investigation of Crab Key.

To be honest with you though this is probably one of the most difficult makeup looks out of all the Bond Girls do to the occupation of the character. So I went with a dewy complexion and a really neutral eye, with a little bit of definition, and a nude lip, just to play off of ones natural beauty.

Marc Jacobs: Magic or Tragic

Hello All,

Recently Marc Jacobs of both fashion and perfume fame, lauched his line of cosmetics, everything from foundation to nail polish. And, while I admit that I did not pick up most of the products that were available (as they are really, really, REALLY expensive) I did pick up one of the Style Eye-Con No.7- Plush Shadow pallets.

There were four pallets available,

  • The Tease
  • The Lolita
  • The Starlet
  • The Vamp
Each one is very slightly different:

The Tease: is predominatly purples
The Lolita: is a neutral pallet
The Starlet: is all shimmery metallics
the Vamp: is a collection of darker colours with a green and maroon

I ended picking up the Starlett pallet, by accident as it had been mixed up with the Vamp pallet.
Left to Right: metallic muted lilac, metallic champagne pink, metallic dark copper brown, metallic bright copper, metallic gold, metallic bluish silver, metallic gunmetal gray.

This is one of the strangest pallets that I have ever seen in terms of over all packaging, The pallet when purchased comes in a bag, ... in a box. Yes thats right, the pallet itself comes in a bag, that you can't even use as a way of transporting it as it doesn't really close, and then that is inside of a cardstock box. Inside the bag alongside that pallet is a small sponge tip applicator, which we will talk more about in a minute, and a sort of plastic "liner" on top of the shadows themselves.

One complaint I have is the actual structure of the pallet itself. I love the idea of having a mirror with your palletit makes travel so much easier, but unless your pallet is literally at eye level this mirror is not going to work,it does not bend back past 90°. The latch that opens the pallet is so touchy it either doesn't work (in particular I noticed when I first opened it it took 5 minutes because of the "liner" but continues to stick without it.) or it opens if you look at it wrong. And the final insult of the actual pallet is that it is packaged with a small sponge tip applicator, but there is NO WHERE to put it. Not in the pallet, or the lid won't close, and there isn't even a place on the back of the pallet to put it, the bag it comes in doesn't even close well so you can't carry it in there either.

Left to Right: metallic muted lilac, metallic champagne pink, metallic dark copper brown, metallic bright copper, metallic gold, metallic bluish silver, metallic gunmetal gray.
The eyeshadows themselvesI don't particularilly like either, the shadows I will admit feel really smooth and soft which is nice, but they don't transfer well to brushes. The colours are ridiculously simular, the muted lilac and the gunmetal gray look so close, and the champagne pink is not far behind the lilac in tone. Not only that the biggest problem I had with the eyeshadows was the fact that regardless of what I did, whether I tapped the loose shadow off the brush or not, the fallout from these shadows was terrible, by the time I was done with my makeup it looked like there was more eyeshadow on my face, than on my eyes. And to top it off, the overall selection of eyeshadows in all the pallets, most of them were shimmery, there were very very few matte eyeshadows.

Overall, for the price of $71.99 (in store) or $59.00 (online) for seven eyeshadows that cause incredible fall out, the lack of differing finishes and, ridiculous packaging both in and outside the pallet, I would not purchase these again, and I would not recomend them to any one, I do not believe that they were tested much before they were released, nor do I believe that they put much effort into developing decent shadow selections or good formulas.

Check out how passionate I feel about it here:

Are you calling me "Too Faced"?

Hello All,

I know recently I haven't been posting lately I've been really busy, and I'm really going to be trying to make up for that.

Anyways, I realize that the title of this post might be a little misleading, this is actually a review on two Too Faced products. One is Better Than False Lashes and the second is Better Than Sex mascara. Both claim to be volumizing mascaras, with different means and different forms of application.

Too Faced Better Than False Lashes:

The Better Than False Lashes mascara claims on their packaging that with this two product or three step process. Basically you get two products, the longer tube is your primer and mascara in one,

and the second smaller tube are the nylon lash fibers.

What the instructions say that you are supposed to do is apply the primer/mascara first then apply the fibers and then reapply the mascara. The problem with this is that you end up tainting both the nylon fibers and the mascara, resulting in the fibers clumping on the lashes, to combat this (as I was already aware of this problem) Instead of using the mascara as my primer I substituted that step out with a different primer Lancome's Clis Booster XL.

The claims however are the real test of the product. They claim of their test group:

  • 98% saw longer lashes, I do find this claim true, my lashes definatly did look longer.
  • That there was an over all 42% increase in lash length, I thought my lashes looked a little longer, but I did not notice the addition of that much length.
  • 98% increase in volume, I think that this is a little bit misleading I found that the lashes looked thicker at the base, but not all the way up the lash.
  • 90% saw thicker lashes, over all there was a thickness to the lashes, but was not as effective as other volumizing mascaras.

The mascara wands are fairly staright forward with the mascara having a slight hourglass shape and the nylon fibers having very little in terms of brush shape.

Also I would like to mention that this mascara I find does not work aswell when you curl your lashes before using.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara:

This mascara promises more than the Better Than False Lashes mascara, but with only one product. The formula is slightly wet, which normally I find to result in clumping, but for some reason this does not clump.

As for some of their claims:

  • 1944% more volume, again I don't actually know if I saw quite that much volume, but I definatly noticed more volume with this mascara than the Better Than False Lashes.
  • 93% of the test pool saw base-to-tip cur...Only if you use a lash curler. Mascaras that claim curl actually frustrate me, and don't get me wrong, I test all my mascaras both with and without curling my lashes to get an acurate test, and any and all of the "curling" mascaras I have tried, DO NOT CURL.
  • 100% saw dramatic volume, I don't know if dramatic is the right word, but there was fantastic volume.
  • 100% saw longer lashes, this really goes hand in hand with the volume with this mascara
  • 90% saw a dramatic look with one coat, again I don't know about dramatic but it was very impressive.
The mascara wand itself is far more hourglass shaped than gthe Better Than False Lashes mascara, and this may be why the more liquid formula doesn't clump so much.

That being said IF you were considering buying only one of these mascaras, I would have to pick the Better Than Sex mascara.

Check out video review here:

And a tutorial with The Better Than False Lashes Mascara:
