Bond Girls: Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman)

Hey Everyone,

Following the 1963 release of from Russia With Love was the hugely popular Goldfinger in 1964, this is probably one of the best know early Bond films aside from Dr. No. There is so much about this film that people know, the theme which is extremely similar to Moon River and the whole soundtrack won an Academy Award for Best Sound Editing. It has one of the best know plots, one of the best know Bond henchmen, Oddjob and of course one of the Best known Bond Girls Pussy Galore.

The basic plot of the film is that while Bond (Sean Connery) is on vacation in Miami he gets involved in the dealings of Auric Goldfinger (Gert Fröbe), blackmailing Goldfinger into returning all of his winnings to a man that he had cheated them out of earlier, and angering Goldfinger to the point that he has Bond's "girlfriend" Jill Masterson killed through "epidermal suffocation" using gold paint (which is a myth as it has been proven untrue in recent years.). Thus Bond is on a mission half vendetta and half official business, eventually after being tranquillised after meeting Goldfinger, he wakes up to meet Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman), eventually after discovering Goldfingers grand plan titled "Operation Grand Slam" Bond turns Pussy Galore to the good side and thwarts Goldfinger.

Overall though the feel of the 1960's Bond film makeup is very neutral very natural looking makeup (as you can tell from the previous two tutorials) however, in this particular tutorial I actually pulled inspiration from an outfit that was worn by Pussy Galore in the movie (Outfit on the Left).

And so instead of pulling inspiration from the makeup of the movie I pulled my inspiration from this outfit and the obvious title of the movie, going with a slightly smokey lavender eye and incorporating touches of gold in the lower lash line, cheeks and lips.

Here are the products and styles of brushes I used,

Prep:

Urban Decay Primer Potion (Original), just apply it all over the eye, both upper and lower lids, and just use your finger, they're the best tool for applying primer.

Setting Powder, I always mention it in my videos, I use a setting powder because I have oily eyelids and this helps my makeup last throughout the day, if you don't have that issue, you don't have to use it. Just apply this over your primer with any eyeshadow brush, and your good to go.

Eyeshadow:

(Left to Right: Brow bone, Eyelid and Outer V.)

Wet 'n' Wild Petal Pusher Pallet, I used primarily the left side of the pallet, I used the Brow bone shade of the pallet for my highlight I used a small stiff pencil brush. The eyelid shade for my eyelid applied with a standard eyeshadow brush, and I mixed both crease shades and the sparkly purple definer shade for my outer V which I applied with a fluffy pencil brush and then blended with a fluffy crease brush.

Marc Jacobs The Starlet Pallet, I know I said I don't like this pallet, but this was the only shade that was close to what I wanted. This shade I used for my crease is the farthest left which is a metallic lavender and I used an angled eyeshadow brush to give me the shade of a cut crease, and then I blended it out with a fluffy eyeshadow brush.

Eyeliner:

For this look I used two different pencil liners, I used Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye pencil in Asphyxia which is a purple with blue iridescence for my waterline to tie in the purple. The other is Black Gold from Laura Mercier which is a dark rich gold colour, that I used on my lower lash line.

I lined my upper lid with Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Liner in Perversion, this is my favourite liner, as I prefer a brush tip, alternately if you like a felt tip on your liner Revlon Colourstay liner, it has the closest saturation and consistency to Urban Decay, but if you prefer a pencil liner Tarte EmphasEyes Eyeliner is really good too.

Cheeks and Lips:

For my cheeks I wanted to go with something soft, Bobbi Brown shimmer Brick in Nectar is Ideal for this as it has a slightly gold undertone.

I decided to do something a little bit different for the lip, I wanted to include a touch of gold in the lip, how I did that was I initially applied a base, in this instance a thin coat of the lip gloss that I was going to use then I took a small paddle style brush and applied M.A.C. Old Gold Pigment directly onto the lips,

Then I topped it of with a much thicker glossier coat of Tarte Maracuja Divine Shine Lip gloss in Tipsy.

(Left to Right:Tarte Maracuja Divine Shine Lip gloss in Tipsy, M.A.C. Pigment in Old Gold, Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye pencil in Asphyxia, Laura Mercier Kohl Eye pencil in Black Gold, Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Nectar.)

Coming up next is the 1965 film Thunderball, the Bond Girl is Dominique "Domino" Durval, Played by Claudine Auger.

The Good and The Bad

Hey There,

The Good and the Bad Hair days that is, everybody has them and I am no exception. I personally find my hair very frustrating, my hair is dry, long, blond, thick but finely textured and naturally curly; what does that mean for someone like me? My hair most days is "crunchy", straw like, heavy, knotted staticy and frizzy; but that doesn't mean that I don't have ways of working around these issues.

Product:

Using a variety of products can help, starting with your shampoo and conditioner, to the heat protection products, to styling products can really help how your hair looks on any given day.

Shampoo & Conditioner:

I think that it's important to change shampoos and conditioners periodically otherwise it can build up on your hair, I tend to use a moisturising or a blond shampoo/ conditioner set, as they tend to work best on my type of hair the last two shampoo's that I've used were Paul Mitchell Moisturising and Matrix Blond.

Leave In Conditioner:

Is a mainstay in my hair care repertoire, because of the nature of my hair, being dry naturally I am required at least once a week to do a leave in conditioner treatment, and there are many different kinds, thankfully a little goes a long way as they can be quite expensive. I like the Moroccan Oil leave in conditioner.

Heat Products:

Creams:

Creams are great to add a little bit of smoothness and shine to hair, I like Alterna Bamboo Silk Sleek Brilliance Cream, because you can use it in wet hair to add smoothness and in dry hair to return a bit of sheen.

Oils:

Oils can be iffy for some people, and a lot of people are really into Argan Oil these days as a sort of hair miracle, I don't believe that it is, but I do think oil treatments are good for your hair and scalp, my personal favourite is the Renewing Moroccan Oil, it's inexpensive and can be found readily at most drugstores.

Styling Products:
Gels:

Gels and long hair do not go together, unless it's a curling gel which I would apply before letting my hair air dry to get a more defined curl, but usually I don't bother with these.

Mousse:

Mousses are best applied to wet hair from the roots down, I like sort of making a hair cocktail by first applying mousse, then the argan oil and then finally the bamboo cream and this really helps reduce the amount of frizz. Herbal Essences makes a really nice mousse for their curl line.
Hairspray:
Hairspray is an integral part of any hairstyle I find, and the best hairspray that I have found, I cannot take credit for it was recommended by Emily from Beauty Broadcast is the Tresemme Tres Two Hairspray this will set your hair and just lock it in place but won't leave it crunchy.

Hairstyles:

However, these products don't always work straight away, so I like to keep a couple of easy but stylish hairstyles in my back pocket, whether it's a simple braid or an artistic bun it always helps to have a hairstyle that looks tidy and stylish.

And If All Else Fails...

You can just about always where a hat!

If you have any suggestions of great hairstyles products or comments in general, just leave me a comment and I'll do my best to answer you.

Bond Girls: Tatiana Romanova (Daniela Bianchi)

Hey Everyone,

From Russia with Love was released in 1963 being the second movie in the Bond Series, staring Sean Connery, Daniela Bianchi and Lotte Lenya and James Bond: 007, Tatiana Romanova and Rosa Klebb respectively. I will admit that this is not my favourite bond movie, as it is definitely for of an intellectual action movie, rather than what I think the classic Bond movie is.

In this film, Bond is sent to Istanbul Turkey, to help Tatiana Romanova a Soviet cipher clerk defect to the West with a Lektor cryptograph. What both Bond and Tatiana are unaware of is that Tatiana is in fact an unwitting participant in a SPECTRE scheme led by Rosa Klebb by trying to ruin both of them through scandal (this follows the actual tale of a real person) and then killing both of them, through the course of the movie you see amazing architecture such as the Hagia Sophia, watching James Bond learn about gypsy life and the introduction of the most beloved James Bond character, Q.

So here are the products I used to get the look:

Eyeshadow:

Eyeliner

Blush and Lip Products:

Feel Good Beauty: Walking on Sunshine

Hey there,

One of the easiest ways of working excersise into your routine is walking, this is one of my favorite things to do, and it is so easy to to just do it. One way of working it into your routine is to walk somewhere that you would normally drive for me I walk everywhere I can, I walk to work, the gym and the grocery store and while I don`t use it all the time a pedometer really helps, by using one you can gage how much you normally walk in a day and then you can start building up from there.

Feel Good Beauty: Sugar Fix

Hey Guys,

I'm going to be trying to catch up with my posts in the next couple of days, but today I wanted to tell you about ways of getting your sugar fix. Among my friends and family I am notoriously well known for having a huge sweet tooth, if given the option I could easily eat a whole cake on my own and the eat a couple of boxes of candy and not end up with a stomach ache, but I would feel miserable and guilty afterwards. Alas, trying to live healthy and having a sweet tooth is vertually impossible, fresh fruit and honey only get you so far.

That is until recently. I was looking for a healthy ice cream recipe (It's already really cold here, but I really wanted ice cream) and I came across a fantastic blog. It's called chocolatecoveredkatie.com and I have tried a few recipes from this particular blog and I can honestly admit that they are not only healthy (as well most recipes are also vegan friendly or have substitutions for milk, egg and other ingredients) they really taste just like the unhealthy originals. She has everything from pancake (an incredible red velvet pancake recipe) and oatmeal recipes for breakfast to single serve deserts for cake and cookies alike. I highly, highly recommend you check out her blog and try some of her recipes.

Feel Good Beauty: Hydration, Hydration, Hydration

Hey Everyone,

Hydration is super important to your health, not only does it help with your sleep and your over all feeling of wellness, if you saw my healthy glowing skin video it's also amazing for your skin. Instead of drinking coffee, or soda opt for water there are plenty of options these days even if you want something flavoured or carbonated. The only time I find it difficult to drink the recommended 2.5- 3.5 litres a day is during the winter months. During the summer of course your usually quite hot, your sweating and you can easily consume the recommended amount of fluids, hoowever in the winter your cold most of the time so it's much harder to meet ones daily goals.

Tell me how your hydration is going.

Feel Good Beauty: No More Snack

Hey there guys,

One of the hardest things I`ve found lately is no snacking after dinner. After growing up in a house with not one but two diabetics (it`s hereditary in my family) one of the things I was always encouraged to do was to have an evening snack. Unfortunately the older I got and the later I was able to stay up, the more calories I consumed after dinner. One of the reasons for this is the bodies natural reaction, after a certain point in the evening you body gives you this signal that it is once again hungry, the thing is, your not actually hungry. What this means is that your badly itself is either bored or tired and it wants something to do. However, it isn`t the easiest thing to get past, on of the main problems is that your body is telling you it`s hungry and its hard to not sate that hunger. One thing to do is drink a glass of water when that feeling comes, the other option is to ween yourself from those evening snacks by reducing the amounts and overall number of snacks in an evening.
