Mascara Five You Should Buy and Five You Shouldn't

Hey Everyone,

Sorry for not posting in a while agian things have gotten a little crazy here, however, I am comitting myself to update posts for you guys every Tuesday.

Anyways , this week we are talking about that most essential beauty item Mascara. While I will easily admit that I personally am an eyeliner junkie, nothing finishes a look quite like  agood mascara. Though to be more than fair most of the mascaras on the markets these days tend to be volumizing mascaras, which I quite frankly don't need as I have naturally long thick lashes, which is why I don't find myself lokking for these types of mascaras, unless I am planning on wearing some false lashes, that being said their are five mascaras I believe one should own and five mascaras if you see you should run far far away from.

Makeup Forever Smoky Lash Mascara:

Possibly one of my all time favorite mascaras, it claims to Lengthen, Thicken and Curl, while I will admit that I don't really notice it delivering on it's promise of lengthening or curl. Its thick creamy formula that is slightly dry, meaning that it really grabs and sticks to your lases making them look thicker and the traditional style bristle wand means that it also helps add definition.

Definatly my personal go to mascara. Can be found at Sephora Stores across Canada or at Sephora.ca

Covergirl Exactlash:

Definatly one of the best mascaras on the market. Lives up to its claim, it claims to separate and define your lashes, and that is exactly what it does. it has a much drier formula that the Makeup Forever Smoky Lash but still does a great job of grabbing onto your lashes, with the use of the closely spaced rubber bristle wand.

While it wouldn't be the ideal mascara for someone whoe needs a more volume or has thinner lashes, if you need that definiton or if your lashes tend to clump when you use a volumizing mascara I would follow with a coat of this mascara so that it seperates the clumped lashes. Can be found at London Drugs, Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall and associated Pharmacies, Walmart, Target, Loblaws and Superstore, Save-On Foods and Overwaite.

Buxom Amplifed Mascara:

Great all around mascara. The wand has a small knob built into the end that can be twisted one direction reduces the length of the wand bringing the rubber bristels closer together giving great definition,

while twisting the knob the other direction lengthens the wand forcing the rubber bristles farther apart and adding volume.

If you need both volume and definition, this mascara gives both so you can use the volumizing wand followed by the defining wand to get the best of both worlds. I will admit though that I do find the formula a bit wet but the results are still amazing. Can be found at Sephora Stores across Canada and at Sephora.ca

Benefit Badgal Lash:

A really nice volumizing mascara. Generally speaking I only use this mascara either on my outer lashes or if I am using false lashes gives a great amount of  volume but I do find that it can cause major clumping at times, it does however blend really well with false lashes has a large bristle brush and a rather thick but dry formula sticks to lashes well.

Found at Sephora stores across Canada, at Sephora.ca, At Mural stores across Canada and at Mural.ca

Benefit Length and Curl:

A drier formula than the Badgal Lash makes it clump less I personally believe the hourglass bristle brush gives your lashes just a little bit of volume but not endless amounts. Regardless of the mascara it seems that whenever they promote that they "curl" they definatly do not, part of the reason fo that is that most people curl their lashes as it is and there is no way that a mascara wand is capable of the curl a larsh crimper is.

Gives a natural volumized finish to your lashes. Purchase at Sephora Stores across Canada, Sehora.ca, Mural stores across Canada and Mural.ca

Five Definate No Go's

E.L.F.

While there are some E.L.F. products that I really do enjoy, this is not one of them. Due to the length of my lashes I am not generally able to wear mascara on my lower lashes (it makes me look like I've been crying) the small rubber bristle brush would make one think that that is the only way to wear the mascara.

One side of the brush has longer bristles that the oposite side which just have little nubs, the formula is soup, not just liquidy but runny.

Laura Mercier Mascara:

Much like the E.L.F. mascara in consistency the brush is better, bristle and thicker than the E.L.F. brush. While still not the worst mascara that I've ever used it would never be a mascara that I would ever choose again.

I do generally believe that Laura Mercier products are good this is not one of them.

Tarte

Plenty of Tarte Products are great, their maracuja products are all amazing, however, this duo is terrible. The Primer is dry, dry , dry, and the curved brush

The mascara is thick and clegy and the brush shape does not allow fro sufficient cleaning when removed from the tube makes for a terrible mess and mascara/primer clumps on your lashes, there is no reason for these issues considering how great most of Tartes products are.

Sephora

Not entirerly suprising the mascara is not that bad, nor is the brush, however,

when the mascara drys is when the problem begins, the mascara becomes flaky and dry at the slightest movement it comes off of your lashes leaving terrible fallout under your lash line.

Lancome Hypnotic:

This has to be the WORST mascara I have ever tried the wand is very strange flat if held one way with short rubber nubs if held perpendicular is some what triangular shaped,

admitedly not sure how to hold this brush, tried all different ways, same results, the formula is too wet, it doesn't deliver on its promise of volume it causes lashes to clump, and the worst part about it is... that it is scented, not just a light scent, no heavy floral granny perfume and it doesn't difuse after a few minutes, it lasts, at the end of an eight to twelve hour day I you can still smell it. If you see this mascara, RUN FAR FAR AWAY!

Honourable Mentions

The Tarte mascara came as a duo with a primer while I hated the Tarte mascara primer I thought that it would be a good idea to mention that I personaly object to mascara primer I their is one that I quite enjoy. Likewise I have a sixth mascara that I quite like, and is great if you have few, thin or short lashes as it helps to stimulate, grow and strengthen lashes, and it does work.

Lancome Mil Cils Primer:

Fantastic Primer, Creamy coats well without clumping, just be sure that if you do use it make that you let it dry before applying your mascara otherwise it gets a little gumed up on your lashes and your mascara doesn't apply evenly.

Available at Sephora stores across Canada sephora.ca, The Bay and the bay.com and Sears and sears.ca.

Cargo Lash Activator:

Like I said this mascara is amazing coats well and it actually helos your lashes grow, it thickens lengthens and just in general makes them look amazing, and even though I love the Makeup Forever Smokey Lash Mascara, if you are going to buy one high end mascara, this is it. What ever other tricks your mascara may have, they have nothing on this. Available at Mural stores across Canada, Mural.ca as well as Sears and Sears.ca.

Thanks again everybody, and I'll talk to you again next week, and don't forget if there is a makeup product you'd like me to try or review, please leave me a comment I'd love to know what you guys want to see.
