Seeing Red

Hey Everyone,

So here we go again, if you can't tell by the title this one is all about red lips, whether it's red gloss, or even lipstick, a fantastic red lip can be that bold statement of authority or, can transition an everyday look to a polished evening look with one or two simple steps.

Truth be told our most difficult issue when finding the right red lip products is rather difficult, the only rule that I generally follow is going with your skin tone.

Yellow Skin Tone:

Go with a more orange or scarlet coloured lip product. Good gloss choices are Orange Juice from Sephora, it does contain some glitter but does apply rather sheer, and Cherry Flip from Buxom, which does have that classic Buxom minty plumping feel to it applies somewhat sheer and although the name would suggest that is more of a cherry red I find that it actually better complements a more yellow skin tone.

For lipsticks, Kat Von D's Stiletto is a great scarlet red orange, applies super smooth and doesn't dry out you lips, another great choice is Candy Apple which just gives the sheerest touch of red to your lips while adding moisture.

Pink or Red Skin Tone:

Deeper reds and vibrant cherry reds, really any red with a more pink tone do the best, for lip glosses, Hot Mama from Buxom is a deep almost burgundy red no real discernible glitter to it this does not have that same minty plumper that most Buxom glosses have, but does claim to moisturises and plump. Tarte's Natural Beauty is another great pure cherry red, this one does apply more sheer than most of the glosses and it also has maracuja oil in it which means that is so hydrating on your lips.

To be honest there are a lot of great cherry lipsticks, Maybelline Red Revolution is a creamy cherry red, Kat Von D's Underage Red is another great, slightly deeper red, with a little bit of a brown undertone, and E.L.F. Red lip crayon, works great as a lipstick, lip liner or as a red lip base, the actual crayon is a little misleading, it appear to be a brown burgundy it actually comes across as a deep rich red, the brown tone is lost and appears almost candy apple red.

Finally Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Vintage is a deep burgundy, you need very little to get a full coloured lip, non-sticky, however, always use with a base of some sort, whether it be a lip balm, lip butter or other lip product. Lip Tars can be very drying and and has the potential to stain your lips so it is always beneficial to moisturise your lips before using.

So that's it for this week everyone hopefully, this now has you seeing red, have some fun with that red lip, with so many options out there, you really can't go wrong.
